For the third time in a row Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and Stichting ArtWorlds set out to organize Summer Expo, which is the largest national art exhibition in the Netherlands consisting of works selected after open registration.
Register Now!
Both renowned and unknown artists are invited to register as participants for Summer Expo 2013 - Earth and are allowed to present a maximum of three of their works. In the summer of 2013 the exhibition will be put on display at Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The costs attached are 25 euros for each individual work of art. Qualifying rounds are held in Amsterdam, Eindhoven and Rotterdam.
Sales Exhibition
This year the works presented at the exhibition are put up for sale! Just like the Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London, ZomerExpo also turns into a sales exhibition. The organization not only hopes to succeed in triggering people to actually purchase works of art but also aims at offering artists a chance to present and sell their works to a large audience.
Theme: Earth
This year, the central theme chosen by the jury is Earth. What is your idea or vision of the earth, what does this planet mean to you? Anselm Kiefer created an art work entitled ‘heaven and earth’ which deals with the shifting definitions of heaven and earth. The earth rotates and spins around and humans simultaneously change along with it. We are curious in what way you choose to let the EARTH theme show in your work. The Earth theme of Summer Expo 2013 neatly corresponds with the theme of an exhibition and manifestation entitled ‘Yes, Naturally – How Art Saves the Planet’, which is to take place from March 16th onwards in, and around, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. Anonymous Selection
All works of art are selected after having been anonymously submitted. Each distinct work of art has to speak for itself - and it is only its expressiveness and distinctive quality that count, since neither the names nor the backgrounds of the artists responsible for the works are revealed during the selection process.
Qualifying Rounds
Qualifying Rounds are held in three different cities in the Netherlands. The 12-person jury consists of curators, gallery owners, cultural entrepreneurs, art historians and artists.
You are invited to register on
Saturday 23 March at TAC, Eindhoven
Saturday 6 April at LP2, Rotterdam
Saturday 20 April at Loods 6, Amsterdam
Public Program
At the time of the qualifying rounds and during the exhibition lectures, courses and workshops on the theme of Earth, artistism and the contents of the actual exhibition itself are presented. These activities, which are all open to the public, have been selected by Gemeentemuseum Den Haag and Stichting ArtWorlds.
ArtWorlds Encouragement Prizes
Encouragement prizes are attributed to three of the works of art exhibited at Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The prizes are awarded by the public and the participating museums in the project.
AVRO KunstUur
AVRO KunstUur is going to make a documentary film of the qualifying rounds.
This project was realized with support of the Cultural Participation Fund, the Mondriaan Fund and the Bankgiro Loterij.
